The DLC has the opportunity to change this and, fortunately, based on what has been revealed so far, it seems that may be happening.Īccording to Thunder Lotus' roadmap, the "Lily" update (coming in the spring), will add "More Stella story content" and a new spirit in the form of Stella's sister, Lily. Stella's history as a end-of-life care nurse is such an important aspect of her character, and it's a shame that Spiritfarer (as it has existed since launch) left this fact to be confirmed by supplementary materials rather than making it explicit in the game itself. The book confirms that she was the first patient Stella ever lost, and her death reaffirmed Stella's career path. For example, Alice, a hedgehog suffering from some form of dementia, was one of Stella's patients. Certain ones obviously relate to her and her life - Gwen was a close friend who died in her 40s, Atul was her uncle and Summer was married to Stella's aunt - but others make more sense given Stella's job. While she wouldn't have had a boat or literally been able to guide her patients to the other side, Stella cared for her patients and their needs just as she does for the passengers on her boat. In a way, Stella was already the Spiritfarer in life. The fact that Stella was someone who cared for the sick and dying, trying to ease their pain and allowing them to pass on as comfortably as possible, makes so much sense, and it brings another layer of depth to an already brilliant game.
